Research at DDU

In our research, we design and develop Digital Process Chains from the initial idea to digital fabrication and robotic assembly. Our research on Digital Reconstruction creates virtual experiences and preserves memories of lost buildings and cities.

We investigate whether global networking enables collaborative design (crowdsource design) and whether concepts such as open source and FabLabs can be transferred to architecture. We reconstruct buildings from the past to make them digitally accessible again. We develop software that scans huge solution spaces for modular designs and generates rule-based aggregations. We use simulation and robotics to develop new and resource-efficient concrete formwork systems. We research to make our built environment more diverse, resource-efficient and sustainable.
