Research at DDU

Digitalisation is changing architecture, planning and building. In our research, we develop computer-aided design methods and tools appropriate to the material, as well as digital process chains from the initial idea to its materialization.

We investigate whether global networking enables collaborative design (crowdsource design) and whether concepts such as open source and FabLabs can be transferred to architecture. We reconstruct buildings from the past to make them digitally accessible again. We develop software that scans huge solution spaces for modular designs and generates rule-based aggregations. We use simulation and robotics to develop new and resource-efficient concrete formwork systems. We research to make our built environment more diverse, resource-efficient and sustainable.
