Compactness vs. Daylight
Student research project by Leonie Keicher
The aim of this work is to find out what influence compactness has on the daylight irradiation of a building. Compact Cubes is a digital puzzle that deals with the relationship between the Surface Area and the Building Volume (in Architectural slang the „A/V ratio“ ). The game„Compact Cubes“ was developed during the seminar at DDU „Spielend Entwerfen“ from an extraction and combination of the most important components of Le Corbusier's living machine Unité d'Habitation and the game Soma Cube. This research project investigated in greater detail the dependancies between building performance, massing, facade surface area and windows orientation.
