Tactile Robotic Assembly

Assembly of multimaterial, modular constructions by learning robots and touch sensor technology

2020/03/30

In this project we are developing new modules and joining methods for robotic-autonomous construction together with the department Intelligent Autonomous Systems (ISA) of Prof. Jan Peters at the Department of Computer Science. Using a new image-based sensor technology, robots receive tactile feedback and are able to „feel“ objects. The sensor feedback allows the robot to recognize component tolerances and surface conditions of different modules and to learn adequate joining techniques.

Project partners: Department Intelligent Autonomous Systems (ISA) Prof. Jan Peters at the Department of Computer Science and the Digital Design Unit (DDU) Prof. Dr.-Ing Oliver Tessmann at the Department of Architecture.

The project is supported by the funding initiative interdisciplinary research of the Technische Universität Darmstadt.
