Dr. Shayani Fernando

Dr. Shayani Fernando is a licensed Architect and researcher from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her Ph.D. thesis is titled: The Machine and the Arch - Explorative Intersections in Stereotomic Practice, Structural Design and Robotic Crafting of Dry Stone Interlocking Joint Structures.

Following graduation from her Architecture degree, she worked in various residential, commercial, educational and non-profit architectural organisations as well as completed an Advanced Architectural degree in Design Technologies at the University of Technology, Sydney.

She is recipient of the Young Caadria award, Australasian Center for Italian studies Cassamarca and Swiss Government Excellence Research Scholarships (ETH Zurich) 2017/2018. She has exhibited her work in international galleries and events including Salone Satellite, Milan Design Week 2018.

Her research interests involve using stereotomic methods to shape space and reform the value of craft.
