Success at the 2026 Award for Sustainability and Interdisciplinarity

The Association of Friends of TU Darmstadt has presented the Award for Sustainability and Interdisciplinarity at its spring reception on 20 May 2026. DDU performed well: one of the four prize-winning projects were developed by researchers from the Institute.
Dr.-Ing. Kira Stein, Chair of the Board of Trustees, commended the winning teams and thanked the Office of Sustainability and the Forum for Interdisciplinary Research (FiF) at TU Darmstadt for their collaboration.
About Fertigteil 2.0:
The research project developed and tested a real-digital process chain for reusing existing concrete components as ready-made building elements. An accompanying life cycle assessment demonstrates that reusing concrete components can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 65%. The close interdisciplinary cooperation enabled the team to secure a follow-up project focused on transferring the findings into practice. Project members: Digital Design Unit: Prof. Dr.-Ing. About the award:
The Award for Sustainability and Interdisciplinarity is presented by the Association of Friends of TU Darmstadt. Projects are sought that combine the themes of sustainability and interdisciplinarity. Evaluation criteria include scientific quality and creativity as well as impact – both within TU Darmstadt and beyond.
The Friends of TU Darmstadt award prizes totalling 10,000 euros in collaboration with the Forum for Interdisciplinary Research (FiF) and the Office of Sustainability at TU Darmstadt.
